An update for those in Aerosace and Defence who are buying or selling nano, micro or small unmanned air systems.

At A J S Support Ltd we see developing opportunities for us to provide support to customers involved in the Procurement, Business Management and Equipment Support for small UAS. We have over 25 years experience of being actively involved in Defence Equipment procurement and its through life support. We have supported Industry and MoD Teams at various stages of the procurement and support process, for a number of major Defence equipment capabilities. We are equipment support specialists. The majority of our experience has been gained involved in the Defence procurement process. I suppose you could say we now speak fluent ‘Defence Procurement’ and ‘Industry Equipment Support Contract’. We understand the terminology, have in-depth knowledge and have hands on experience of operating equipment in hostile and extreme environmental conditions. We have experience of equipment capability development, from Requirements to Validation and Verification. We are conversant and experienced with Defence Standards, Joint Service Publications, the financial processes and assurance procedures; that are required by the MoD to ensure that equipment is successfully introduced into service and fully supported.

Additionally, having over 2 years practical experience in the development of commercial support services using small unmanned aircraft systems – We consider ourselves to be one of a rare breed that are ideally placed to assist industry manufactures and distributes of Nano, Micro and small UAS (nUAS , mUAS and sUAS) when buying, selling and supporting products and systems in the UK MoD market.

MoD Chinook Support Contract

We have successfully completed a contract providing support to the MoD Chinook Project Team. All Equipment Support work packages were delivered on or ahead of schedule and to a strict budget. This support was delivered through the MoD Framework Agreement for Technical Services (FATS3). On 1st April 2009 A J S Support Limited qualified as an MoD supplier within the terms of MoD’s Framework Agreement for Technical Services (FATS3).

FATS provides a faster and more efficient contractual route to procure Technical Support as it offers pre-agreed contract terms and conditions, rates and discounts, and it uses standard Tasking Forms.

FATS Participating Suppliers have mapped their capabilities onto the FATS Technology Taxonomy, and this information is available to the Acquisition Community via a Microsoft Excel based search tool called the Market Knowledge Matrix.

FATS can be used by all Ministry of Defence (MoD) Project Teams (PTs), Business Units and Departments, and also Other Government Departments and Public Bodies. FATS/3 has over 380 Participating Suppliers, many of which are Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This contract provided consultancy support in a number of individual Logistic Support Analysis work packages:

  1. Providing data collation, validation and analysis expertise to support the Logistics Team; delivering support to recommendations for deployed stock levels.
  2. Providing contract support analysis to develop master data tools to manage items, and provide an audit trail for materiel resulting from modifications and/or additional subcontracts activities. Delivering master tool bill of materials with audit trails.
  3. Additionally providing further contract support analysis, developing information tools to map major programmes against system components.

AJS April Update – Equipment Consultancy

MoD Abbeywood Bristol

We continue to provide technical consultancy support to the Defence Industry for a major rotary winged weapon capability. The contract has 2 months to run and is due completion at the end of June 10.

We have provided technical assistance to both the Defence Industry suppliers and the MoD on many Land, Sea and Air equipment management teams over the years.

We continually seek, welcome and discuss opportunities for future equipment support contracts. One of our the aims for our consultancy service is to support the MoD procurement teams in Abbeywood and ideally on unmanned equipments. In support of this aim, in 2009 AJS qualified as a supplier under the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Framework Agreement for Technical Support (FATS3) So all opportunities in this area will be considered.
